JAMMU, Oct 11: Police today saved 30 kanals of prime forest land at Sunjwan from being encroached upon by the land grabbers.
Police spokesman said that Forest Range Officer Khanbaz informed SDPO City East, S S Sambyal that a chunk of prime forest land was being encroached upon by some land grabbers at Sunjuwan by pressing into service JCB and labourers for its leveling.
Accordingly, a police team headed by SDPO S S Sambyal, SHO Trikuta Nagar Police Station Inspector Sameer Jeelani and Incharge Police Post Bathindi Mohd Iqbal along with Range Forest Officer rushed to the spot and found that some Jhuggies were established in the patch of forest land and JCB was being used in some portion of land.
On witnessing police personnel, the persons working on the piece of land immediately fled from the spot leaving behind tools, which were being used for construction purpose. Some labourers were questioned to identify the land grabbers, who have gone underground.
A case under relevant section of RPF/ Forest Act has been registered in this regard.
The land was saved from being encroached upon by the police team under the supervision of SSP Jammu, Prabhat Singh and SP South Rajeshwar Singh.
