SRINAGAR, Jan 12: The Regional Transport Officer, Kashmir, Farooq Ahmad Rather, today distributed 500 helmets to the 2 wheelers’ commuters at various places in Srinagar City which includes MA Road, Rajbagh near Akash Coaching Centre, Parraypora on the occasion of the 28th Road Safety Week.
The RTO, Kashmir informed that two wheelers accident constitutes about 25 percent of the total road accidents and 98.6 percent of the deaths by two wheeler accidents occur due to non-wearing of helmets.
He said that many people do not wear helmets either due to vanity or a notion of hair loss due to wearing helmets. But the fact is that this negligence in the event of the accidents is either fatal or can adversely change life of a person, as head injuries can cause damage to brain and other vital organs resulting in irreversible damage.
He appealed to people to prefer safety to vanity. He informed that various two wheeler dealers, volunteers and civil defense, NGOs, general public and Motor Vehicle Department have participated in this goodwill event and every effort would be made to make people aware about Road Safety.
