Two banks, Post office, 20 shops gutted in Srinagar fire

Srinagar : Two banks, a post office and about 20 shops were gutted in a devastating fire at Court Road near Lal Chowk in the heart of summer capital, Srinagar in the wee hours today.    An official of Fire and Emergency (F&E) told UNI that about two dozen fire tenders and other vehicles were rushed from F&E headquarters at Batmaloo and other parts of the city.    He said exact details about the loss in the fire was being ascertained but Punjab National Bank (PNB) and Vijya Bank besides a post office and about 20 shops and business establishments were damaged in the incident. He said since it was still smoldering, several fire tenders were still there.     The cause of fire was not immediately known, he said adding that no injuries were reported.  (Agencies)
