32 dead after Turkish Airlines cargo jet crashes in Kyrgyzstan

A Turkish Airlines cargo jet, from Hong Kong, crashed near Kyrgyzstan’s Manas airport on Monday, killing at least 32 people, the Kyrgyz government said.

Rescue workers have recovered the body of one pilot and 15 local people whose houses were in the Boeing 747 jet’s crash area, the healthcare ministry said. A number of children are reported to be killed.

The Boeing 747 crashed into the houses near Manas airport, Kyrgyzstan’s main international airport, but the cause of crash is unclear as of now. The flight was making a stopover at Manas en route to Istanbul in Turkey.
At the time of crash, the visibility was poor because of thick fog and several buildings were destroyed. (Agencies)
