Work apace on Rs 1.27 cr Trout Fish Farm Bheja: Kohli

JAMMU : The Minister for Animal and Sheep Husbandry and Fisheries Abdul Gani Kohli today informed the house that the Trout Fish Farm at Bheja in Bhaderwah was sanctioned under the Chief Minister’s Special Programme in 2005-06 at an estimated cost of Rs 127.41 lakhs out of which an amount of Rs 92.50 lakh was released to the executing agency JKPCC for the construction works.

The Minister was replying to a Calling Attention Notice given by Naresh Kumar Gupta in the Upper House today.

The Minister said the works executed till date include 05  American Type Trout Raceways, Hatchery House with water supply and Staff quarters besides fencing of the project has also been completed.

Kohli said it was envisaged that the project will be fed by taping the water from the two nearby streams namely Nallah Sherkhi and Nallah Thanallah and the additional source of water through pipelines from Nallah Thanallah was taken up by JKPCC and the same is yet to be completed.

The Minister said that JKPCC has been asked to expedite the remaining works and the remaining amount of Rs 34.91 lakh will be released after availability of funds.

The Minister said the breeding programme of trout was successfully carried out during last year and is in progress during the current year. He further informed that during  last year 45000 seed was produced, out of which 39000 have been stocked in Nallahs Sherkhi, Thanallah, Binkot, Desa, Halone, Chilli, and 6000 were reared in the farm.  During the current year 25000 green eggs have been produced till date and kept in the hatchery house for further development to fry stage, he added.
