SRTC workers staging protest dharna in Jammu on Friday.

JAMMU, Oct 12: State Road Transport Corporation workers staged two hour  protest demonstration in support of their demands outside the office of General Manager Operations here today.
A large number of workers of the SRTC, under leadership of  Shakeel Ahmed Kuchey, chairman and Paramjeet Singh, general secretary of SRTC Employees Union assembled at Bikram, Chowk in the office complex of  General Manager Operations here during the mid day and  held strong protest demonstration for about two hours. They were shouting slogans against the Transport Minister,  Qamar Ali Akhoon and the management of the Corporation.
Mr Kuchey and Paramjit Singh while addressing gathering alleged that demands agreed upon by the Government have not been honoured by the management of the Corporation and the employees were being forced again to go on strike. They pointed out that during last meeting of  the Board of Directors, it was assured that regular meetings after the interval of three months will be held and all the pending issues resolved but there was no meeting in last over seven months. No DA was being given to the Corporation workers and only basic pay is being released under 6th Pay Commission. No action was taken on the issue of pension and  over time.
They further alleged that decision regarding providing land for Tehzeeb Mehal near TRC in Srinagar, allotment of  SRTC land to JK Bank at Jammu Railway stations etc were not discussed  in the Board meetings in violation of  the rules and the Act. They said many other burning issues of the SRTC workers remained unresolved and  the workers were being forced  to come out on the roads to stage protest.
