Pathania, Dar get Best Legislators Award

JAMMU, Jan 23: Two sitting Legislators of State Assembly, Ranbir Singh Pathania, BJP MLA from Ramnagar in Udhampur district and Bashir Ahmed Dar,  Peoples Conference (PC) MLA from Kupwara in Kashmir valley have been awarded the Best Legislature Award for year 2016 and 2015 respectively by Speaker State Assembly Kavinder Gupta on the recommendations of the Award Committee.
Besides, three MLAs each of different political parties were given letter of appreciation for the year 2015 and 2016 respectively. For 2015 the MLAs who were given the letter of Appreciation included Rigzin Jora and Asgar Ali Karbalaie of Congress and Aijaz Ahmed Mir of PDP while Shamima Firdous  of NC, Abdul Rahim Rather of PDP and Pawan Gupta Independent were given the Letter of Appreciation for year 2016.
The Award Committee which made the recommendations comprised of former Speaker, journalists and civil society members.
Pathania shot into prominence with his novel idea of Public meeting cum grievance redressal camp at various places in the Constituency. During his stint as legislator he was pretty vocal in raising various issues in the Assembly. Though being a part of ruling BJP-PDP coalition, Pathania even didn’t hesitate to show dissidence on certain issues of grave public importance.
He is a distinction-holder graduate from G.G.M. Science College Jammu and having done L.L.B. from University of Jammu, he has been practicing law at the Jammu seat of J & K High Court at Jammu and accredited to have dealt with prestigious cases pertaining to Sidhra land scam and B.Ed Colleges scandal in the Supreme Court of India.
He was elected for the first time to State Assembly in 2014 and his remarkable performance was lauded both by opposition as well as ruling party members.
Bashir Ahmed Dar who is also an advocate by profession and he was too elected for the first time to Assembly from Handwara Constituency in the year 2014 and being a ruling coalition member he did not hesitate in raising the issues of public importance and did not remain behind in pointing out the shortcomings of the Government where the interest of general public was involved.
A soft spokesperson, Dar remained always on forefront in raising the issues of public importance in the House. A graduate from Degree College Sopore, Dar has done his LLB with Honours from University of Kashmir in the year 1984 and since then he has been practicing in District Court Kupwara and J&K High Court. He has been associated with Peoples Conference since the day he started his political career.
