JAMMU, Jan 25: Former minister and senior Congress leader, R S Chib today visited Bal Ashram and Nari Niketan under State Social Welfare Department and greeted the inmates on the occasion of Republic Day.
While addressing the inmates of these homes at RS Pura, Chib wished them greetings on eve of Republic Day, describing it as a proud day for every Indian. He said the country became Republic and adopted the constitution of our country on this day. Chib, distributed quilt covers among the inmates, as a social gesture on this auspicious occasion.
While talking to the inmates of both the homes, Chib found that their living condition was miserable, which includes both, their boarding and lodging facilities. Their hostel building was found totally in dilapidated condition. Saroj Bala , Superintendent of Nari Niketan said that the Department of Social Welfare is taking all care, but there are many problems, including the upkeep/ maintenance of building and the poor surroundings.
Chib urged upon the Minister for Social Welfare Sajjad Gani Lone to pay a personal visit to this centre, where poor ladies and orphan children are housed in miserable condition. Chib further added that a place like `Nari Niketan’ should be functioning in an ideal condition, when our State is headed by a Chief Minister who is also a woman.
