JAMMU, Feb 1: The State Government today admitted that about 1380 kanal of J&K State land in Sirsa ( Haryana), 32 kanal in Amritsar, 96 kanal in Delhi and one and half kanal in Chadigarh worth hundreds of crores has been encroached upon.
The Government in written reply to the question of NC Member, Dr Shehnaz Ganai in the Upper House today claimed that 31 Kanal and 9 Marla of land situated at Daim Ganj/ Tapai Road, Amritsar is under the illegal occupation of the descendents of the original lessees namely- Beli Ram, S Gurbux Singh and Hari Parkash. The State had filed three suites for taking possession of the State land.
The Government further revealed that 1251 kanal and 4 marla land at Sirsa in Harayana, is also under unauthorised occupation of Bajwa brothers to whom the land was initially leased out for 5 years from 1957 to 1962 to them. They managed to transfer its ownership in favour of Mirpur Cooperative Society by an order dated 2-4-1986 passed by Assistant Collector Ist Class / Distt Revenue Officer, Sirsa. A writ petition in this connection has been filed in the Punjab and Harayana High Court.
A piece of land measuring one kanal and 7 marla located at Chandigarh has also been grabbed. It had been rented out to the Labour Bureau, Govt of India. The Matter has been taken up with the concerned department but they are also not vacating.
Another prime land measuring 96 kanal, belonging to J&K has been encroached upon by the Army at Rajaji Marg in New Delhi. Besides this, one kanal and 11 marla land has also been encroached upon by the CPWD. The matter was taken up worth the Ministry of Defence time and again but it has not been vacated by the Defence Ministry.
Besides this, 9 kanal and 12 Marla of prime State land located at Napean Sea Road, Mumbai has been leased out to M/s Sanghvi Construction Company. The favour was showered on a private firm by the State Govt on June Ist, 1991.
