JAMMU, Feb 1: Abdul Latief Deva, Chairman, Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission, called on Governor N. N. Vohra, at the Raj Bhavan here.
The Chairman presented to the Governor a copy of the Commission’s Annual Report for 2015-16 and informed him about the advances made by the PSC and the stay orders and other difficulties which had impeded the pace of its work.
The Governor emphasized the importance of the Commission maintaining transparency and impeccable standards and observed that even a slight compromise would not only keep out a meritorious candidate but mar the functioning of a public office by the inadequate performance of the functionary who was not selected on merit.
The Governor complimented the Chairman on being informed that the Commission was making the maximum use of information technologies to bring various processes online which have enhanced efficiency and also ensured transparency.
Dr. Khurshid Iqbal Andrabi, Vice-Chancellor, University of Kashmir also called on Governor.
Dr. Andrabi informed the Governor about the deferment of teaching programmes and examination schedules because of the very heavy snowfalls in the recent days. He stated that all the backlog liabilities would be fully cleared by end February and this would ensure that the next Academic Session proceeds as per the envisaged academic calendar (2017-18).
The Governor reiterated the importance of the institution remaining fully focused on teaching and research activities and dispels any factor or influence which is likely to affect the University’s goals.
