SRINAGAR, FEBUARY 02: Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh today called for collective and coordinated efforts to revive pristine glory of Srinagar city to make Srinagar a centre of attraction for more tourists and locals.
The Minister said this while chairing a meeting convened to review the post snowfall situation in the valley besides pace of various works undertaken for developmental projects for beautification of Srinagar.
Commissioner Secretary H&UD, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Director Local Bodies, Vice Chairman of Srinagar Development Authority, LAWDA, MD Housing Board, Chief Engineer UEED, CEO UDAC, Chief Town Planner, Chief Architect and other concerned attended the meeting.
The meeting was informed that as on date SMC and Local bodies have cleared snow from all roads, lanes and by-lanes across the valley.
The meeting was informed that the liability of NBCC for sewerage works in Srinagar has been cleared and the company will restart the work soon.
Deputy Commissioner Srinagar who is also holding the charge of Commissioner Srinagar Municipal Corporation said that the administration is taking all steps to curb illegal constructions besides remove encroachments. It was said that during last year 228 demolition drives were lunched against the illegal constructions and FIRs have been filed against the violators.
VC, LAWDA said that 390 illegal buildings have been demolished and 541 violators were booked.
On the occasion, the Deputy Chief Minister directed the officials to take appropriate measures against the encroachments and illegal construction and ensure that there is no encroachment in the city. He also directed the officials to make small interventions too like installing aesthetically pleasing dustbins, beautiful bus stops, installing street lights etc so that Srinagar becomes epitome of facilities for locals and tourists. He also directed the officers to resolve all issues of street vendors within a period of month.
Regarding sanitation activities, the meeting was informed that the third cell at Achan Dumping site will be completed in March and will cater to needs of garbage disposal for next 2-3 years.
The meeting was informed that detailed zonal planning shall start from next month in Srinagar, Anantnag, Jammu and Katra and will be completed within a financial year.
On the occasion, Chief Town Planner said that the Srinagar Master Plan will be put in public domain soon to seek public response.
