KISHTWAR Feb 6: Former minister and National Conference MLC Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo today expressed deep anguish over the loss of life and damages to property due to heavy snowfall and rains in the upper reaches of the Chenab Valley and sought immediate survey for assessing the losses to compensate sufferers.
“Incessant rains have triggered landslides while massive snowfall has led to closure of various interior roads in the Kishtwar district, as a result of which acute shortage of essentials and medicines is being felt all over”, Mr Kichloo said and urged upon the Administration to take appropriate measures for ensuring medicare and regulate supply of essential commodities especially the rations in remote areas.
Mr Kichloo referred to colossal damages caused to orchards in Marwah-Warwan areas and urged the Revenue and Horticulture departments to conduct survey and assess the losses. He also called for ensuring supply of drinking water and power besides taking up of restoration works in the areas that have suffered hugely.
He expressed concern over the continued closure of the National Highway that has left many people stranded enroute and in Jammu. He demanded adequate assistance to them in terms of lodging, food etc till the highway and other interior roads are opened for traffic.
