JAMMU, Feb 7: To improve the quality of the crops in Jammu region the Department of Agriculture has initiated ICT approach of extension system from this year through launch of e-plant clinics (Table based clinics).
The role of this new system will be to strength the plant health systems for increased food security , poverty alleviation and improve livelihood.
This information was given in a stakeholders review meeting by Dr Vinod Pandit, Project Scientist and Programme coordinator. The meeting was chaired by Director Agriculture A K Malhotra. The meeting was jointly organised by the Consultative Forum of Department of Agriculture Jammu and Centre for Agriculture and Biosciences International (CABI).
He said plant wise will not only help farmers but also to gather pest and disease related data which can assist trace and policy making on the global scale.
Under this novel approach 15 clinics have been already established in three districts covering 1000 farmers for providing advisories on different crop pest diseases.
Director Agriculture A K Malhotra said in the meeting such interactive sessions and awareness programmes at the ground level will be helpful to create platform for early warning system for pest forecasting and to check the pest outbreak.
