Sham Chaudhary for creating mass awareness about water conservation

JAMMU : Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control Sham Lal Chaudhary today said there is a need to create awareness among the masses about the benefits of conserving water and stressed that a message must go in the society that water is a vital natural resource and its ‘every drop counts’.

Expressing concern over the depleting water resources, the Minister said, “If actions for its conservation are not taken today, it can spill disaster for all living beings in the near future.”

The Minister said this while addressing an Advocacy workshop being organized by District Water and Sanitation Mission, Jammu to sensitize the allied departments regarding the conservation of water and preservation of water bodies under National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP) at PWD Guest Gandhi Nagar, Jammu.

The Minster directed the concerned officers to organize such workshops at state level, district level, constituency level and Gram Sabha level, besides creating awareness among the youth in schools, colleges and other educational institutions.

Commissioner Secretary PHE, I&FC Department Sanjeev Verma, Chief Engineer PHE Sushil Aima, Chief Engineer, I&FC RK Gandotra, Chief Engineer RTIC HC Jerath and Executive Director, CCDU Rajeev Malhotra also spoke on the occasion.

Various government departments including Health Department, Education Department, Agricultural Department, Central Water Commission Jammu, Central Ground Water Board, Jammu and PHE Department displayed their presentations on the occasion.
