Waste management

Sir,
This has reference to the article ‘Waste management in urban areas’ DE Feb 11,2017.
The management of urban waste is a challenging task. It grows more and more complex with each passing day. Though efforts are being made to tackle it, success is duding the authorities that deal with it. Recently, the capital city Delhi was in news for wrong reasons.
Mountains of garbage had erupted here and there and it had become a matter of concern for the residents as well the Delhi Government. So is the case with Jammu city and other small town of this State. The people whether in towns or villages are not much sensitive about waste management. They throw garbage carelessly wherever they find it worth throwing. To meet this challenge in India the Government of India formed National Environment Policy 2006. While suggesting measures for controlling various form of environmental pollution, it lays emphasis on the need for collection and treatment systems and devising measures for environmentally safe disposal of residues. But one wonders why the Municipal Corporations in both Jammu and Srinagar have not taken such measures which can tackle waste efficiently ?
Yours etc…
