JAMMU, Feb 15: Department of Urdu, University of Jammu (JU) in collaboration with Qasmi Kutub Khana, Talab Khatikan, Jammu, organized a function in the Prof Gian Chand Jain Seminar Hall of the Department of Urdu to release a book on Urdu writers.
The book titled “Urdu language and literature in the Chenab Valley” was released by the Minister of Haj and Aquaf Farooq Andrabi, who was the chief guest on the occasion. The book has been compiled and edited by the Head, Department of Urdu, JU, Prof Shohab Inayat Malik.
The noted scholar of the State, MY Taing was the guest of honour on the occasion while JU Vice Chancellor, Prof RD Sharma, presided over the function. The function was also attended by students, scholars, faculty members and a number of writers from Chenab Valley.
Speaking on the occasion Farooq Andrabi, described the Chenab valley a land of intellectuals. He said that people of the Chenab Valley are not only beautiful but also a symbol of communal harmony and National Integration. Describe Chenab Valley the mother of Urdu language, the Minister said that he will discuss the issue of setting up an Urdu Council in the State for the promotion of the language with Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti.
MY Taing in his speech described Prof Malik not only a good organizer but also a writer par excellence who has authored above two dozens of books. He demanded that Prof Malik’s book should be introduced in the colleges of Chenab Valley. Describing Urdu a link language of the three regions of the State, Taing demanded to restore the official status of the language.
While congratulating Prof Malik for his new book, the JU VC highlighted the academic activities being done by the Urdu department and described Urdu department as one of the biggest departments of the Jammu University.
On the occasion, two critical papers were read on the book by Brij Nath Betab (a well known Broadcaster) and Dr Ayaz Rasool Nazqi.
Earlier in his welcome address, Prof Malik informed that while compiling the book he has paid back the debit of his mother land. He describes Bhaderwah the land of intellectuals and poets. He said that Government should give special attention towards Chenab valley as it has a large potential.
