KATHUA, Feb 19: More than half dozen of villages falling under Panchyat Kathera in Kathua district are waiting for construction of roads since independence. A thick population of two Panchayats from Kathera to Rajbagh connecting to village Faffal, Teda , Ladhi are still waiting for road connectivity.
The residents including school children, women travel on foot in Kachha foot path to reach their villages. The Khud on the way is also big hurdle for people to cross during the rainy season and school children are forced to stay in their homes during the rainy season and cannot cross the river to join the Higher Secondary School Kathera. The locals Sabbar Ali and Roop Singh told this reporter that they have no pacca road for their villages. A kachha link road was constructed years earlier which is also in dilapidated condition now and vehicular traffic can’t run over it.
They said during the rainy season they cannot cross the local khud falling in the way of village. The patients suffer a lot of problems to reach Hospital in this rough way .
The Deputy Commissioner Kathua Ramesh Kumar said that some rural roads of this area are covered under 10th PMGSY plan. The remaining road proposal have also been sent to Government for construction. If possible some may covered under MNREGA for earth works and temporally repairs.
When contacted Union Minister, Dr Jitendra Singh, who is also MP from Kathua- Doda Lok Sabha Constituency, said, that 73 road projects which were pending for a long time have been cleared in Kathua district after his intervention. However if there are more roads which are to be constructed the State Government should take up the issue and frame DPRs for the same so that we can take up them with Union Rural Development Ministry for clearance and release of funds.
