JAMMU, Mar 3: Police tonight recovered an Army truck and a carbine from it while driver of the vehicle, an Army jawan posted in Northern Command at Udhampur, fled away, after being intercepted at Lakhanpur, the gateway to Jammu and Kashmir. The Army driver had fled with vehicle and carbine from Udhampur late in the evening.
Police said they got a report tonight that an Army personnel Satish Kumar working with Supply Corps of Northern Command at Udhampur had fled away with one-ton Army vehicle and a Carbine weapon.
Police parties at Lakhanpur toll plaza naka led by SHO Inspector Kulbir Singh Choudhary intercepted the vehicle. However, the Army personnel fled away leaving behind the truck.
Police said the truck and carbine in it have been recovered and a hunt was on to nab the Army driver and ascertain reasons for his desertion.
