SRINAGAR: Minister for Education, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari, today visited SP College Srinagar and District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) at Bemina to review the infrastructure requirement and the functioning of these institutions.
He was accompanied by Minister for Public Works, Naeem Akhtar, Commissioner Secretary Higher Education Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon and Vice Chancellor Cluster University Srinagar, Dr Sheikh Javaid.
While reviewing the functioning of SP College, Bukhari stressed on providing quality education to students coupled with modern technological trends so that the students are able to compete at national and international competitions. He assured the College authorities of all possible support from the Government in its infrastructural upgradation.
He directed the VC Cluster University Srinagar to lay emphases on the 5-year integrated courses for the excellence of students in their respective subjects.
Later, the Minister also visited DIET centre to review the status of Teachers Bhawan and ongoing construction of the Auditorium being executed at the institute.
He was briefed that Teacher’s Bhawan with the capacity of 101 beds has been completed at the cost of Rs 7.51 crore, where as the auditorium is undergoing construction at an estimated cost of Rs 10.39 crore which will be completed by May 2017.
On the occasion, Altaf Bukhari interacted with the trainers and the teachers who are undergoing training in the institute and enquired about the facilities available at the centre. He also inspected functioning of the library and laboratory at the institute.
DC Srinagar Dr. Farooq Ahmad Lone, Director School Education, DGM Housing Board and other officials accompanied the Minister during his visit to DIET.
