Admission process for 2nd batch of SMVDCoN to start from Apr 17

JAMMU, Mar 7: The 12th meeting of the Governing Body of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi College of Nursing (SMVDCoN), Kakryal, held here reviewed the arrangements put in place for the selection of students for the second batch of the College, process of which would commence from April 17.
Maj. Gen. (Retd) Shiv Kumar Sharma, Member of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board and Chairman of the Governing Body of the College, chaired the meeting.
The meeting was informed that online portal for filling up application forms for admission for the second batch of the 4 year B. Sc. Nursing Course at the SMVDCoN will commence from April 17, 2017 and will remain open for one month.
The Entrance Examination will be conducted on June 4 at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University and classes for the second batch (2017-18) will start in mid July 2017. The facility of online filling up of application forms will enable the students to apply from any part of the State and beyond without the need of travelling to the College or using the time consuming postal method. Arrangements have also been made so that the candidates can get immediate confirmation through SMS and email of having filled up  the application forms.
The meeting was attended by the Members of the Governing Body of the Nursing College: Dr. M. K. Bhandari, Commissioner/Secretary, Health and Medical Education; A. K. Sahu, Chief Executive Officer of the Shrine Board; Dr. V. Verma, Dean, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University; and Dr. Shailla Cannie, Principal of the Nursing College.
The Governing Body was also informed about the various co-curricular activities organised by the College of Nursing during the past one month and those planned in the coming months. The meeting underscored the need for larger participation of the students of the SMVDCoN in extra-curricular activities like sports, debates and quiz competitions which help in enhancing soft skills of the students.
Sahu said that possibilities should be explored for organising inter-college debates and quiz competitions by the SMVDCoN for the students of various Nursing Colleges of the State. He mentioned that, if required, possibilities should also be explored for setting up a language lab in the Nursing College.
The Governing Body also approved the Budget of the College and sought a grant-in-aid of Rs. 1.78 crore from the Shrine Board for conducting its functioning in the Financial Year 2017-18. Besides, the Governing Body also approved the Bye-Laws of the academic staff of the College.
