Bid to blackmarket Govt ration foiled, 3 arrested

JAMMU, Mar 8: Three persons including owner of a Government ration depot were arrested today for attempting blackmarketing of Government ration.
According to a police spokesman, on a specific information that owner of a Government ration depot, namely Rakesh Kumar son of Tilak Raj, resident of 112/1, Nanak Nagar is attempting blackmarketing of Government ration by putting the said ration from Government marked bags into and ordinary gunny bags having no Government stamp over them.
He said accordingly a raid was conducted backside of Nehru Market and it was found that some persons were shifting the gunny bags of ration from a Tata Mobile bearing registration number JK02AC-1528 to a truck bearing number JK08E-2297.
“On close observation and search, it was found that the Tata Mobile was carrying 53 gunny bags filled with Government ration but the bags were having no Government stamp or logo on them”, the spokesman said, adding, accordingly the Tata Mobile was seized and driver of the vehicle namely Ajay Kumar son of Ram Lal, resident of Patta Bohri was arrested.
He said that on physical verification, 87 loaded gunny bags filled with Government ration were seized from the Truck. The ration along with driver of the truck namely Kuljit Singh son of Nar Singh, resident of Hiranagar was arrested and the truck was seized.
On physical verification of the depot, 150 empty bags bearing logo of FCI, Government of Punjab, were found and seized. In this connection, a case FIR No 40/2017 U/S 420/407/409/34 RPC and 3/7 Essential Commodities Act stands registered at police station Gandhi Nagar.
The arrests and recovery were made by a police team headed by SDPO South, Rafiq Manhas, SHO Gandhi Nagar, Inspector, Ritesh and I/C, PP Nehru Market, SI Kunal, under the close supervision of SP City South, Sandeep Choudhary.
