Annual conference of Statistics at SKUAST -J concludes

JAMMU, Mar 8: The three-day 19th annual conference of the Society of Statistics, Computer and Applications (SSCA), concluded here today in the Faculty of Basic Sciences at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology of Jammu, Chatha.
The conference with the theme “Statistics and Informatics in Agricultural and Allied Sciences” was organized by the SKUAST-J in collaboration with SSCA.
In the valedictory function, Prof A K Nigam, eminent Statistician of International repute, was the chief guest while Dr J P Sharma, Director Research, SKUAST-Jammu, was the guest of honour. Prof S A Mallick, Dean, Faculty of Basic Sciences, presided over the function. More than 250 senior faculty members, research scholars and postgraduate students from various reputed Research Institutes, Universities and Colleges including Madras, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Maharashtra, Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir participated in the mega scientific event.
Presenting the final report and recommendations of the three day proceedings of the Science Congress,   Dr Manish Kumar Sharma, Organizing Secretary of the conference, informed that about 150 oral presentations were made in 9 different research areas of Science. As many as 3 plenary lectures by the internationally accomplished research scientists and 10 invited talks by the renowned speakers were delivered during the mega event, he added.
M N Dass Memorial Young Scientist award of Rs 20,000/- cash, was awarded to Sukanta Das of IASRI among three presenters.
Addressing to the  galaxy of scientists and researchers during the valedictory function, Prof  A K Nigam talked on various initiatives taken up by the Society.
Prof  J P Sharma,  in his address,  talked about the role statisticians play in formulating the future research strategies. He invited the young researchers to work in co-ordination in this area of research.
Prof  S A Mallick  and  Prof S E H Rizvi,  also spoke on the occasion. The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr  Manish Kumar Sharma, the organizing secretary of the conference.
