JAMMU, Mar 9: MJR-47, Movement for Justice for Refugees of 1947 from PoJK, has termed the `meager’ Central package for PoJK refugees as cruel joke with the Displaced Persons.
“Due to continuous presentation of our case, the then NC-Congress alliance Government in Jammu and Kashmir, recommended first ever relief package for POJK refugees in 2014,  providing relief of cash assistance of Rs 25 lakh per family, special employment package and  reservation in technical institutions for their wards apart from recount of left over DP families but  those who before Parliament and Assembly election in the State were acting as Messiha of DPs have  just given sanction to provide Rs  5.5 lakh  per DP family which is a cruel joke and  complete betrayal to the DPs of 1947,”said J S Sudan, convener MJR-47, in a press statement.
“How they arrived at this amount, is beyond any logic and understanding. The irony is that Central Government forms Parliamentary Committees to study public issues and make recommendations, but don’t take these recommendations seriously. Therefore, if the recommendations, which have strong logic are not acceptable then the formation of such committees is shear wastage of time and money and just to befool people,” he added.
Soodan also ridiculed the claims of those leaders, who described Rs 5.5 lakh  DP family as first installment of financial assistance to divert attention of DP’s and to gain their sympathies.  “This is contrary to the official order, issued by GoI on this behalf. If we are guided by the MOHA, GoI sanctioned letter no. 31/01/2011/R&SO Dt  22nd December 2016, addressed to Chief Secretary Govt of J&K, the order refers to only one time settlement and there is no mention of this being the first installment or part of any other package. The letter clearly mentions in para 2.3 of the scheme,”Central Govt. has carefully considered the proposal ………consider a package of Rs 5.5 lacs cash benefits per family as reasonable amount.…..”, he added.
