UDHAMPUR, Mar 13: BBBP Cell, Udhampur today started an awareness campaign “Noor Jeevan Ka-Betiyan”, an initiative under BBBP abhiyan from CFC Chenani here.
A large number of people attended the programme in which they were made aware on the topic “Women and Financial Literacy”.
Additional Deputy Commis-sioner, Udhampur Avny Lavasa was the chief guest on the occasion, who while speaking highlighted the importance of financial literacy for women empowerment and stressed that a financially empowered woman can contribute in the financial management of her family.
During the programme, ADC also listened to the success stories of various beneficiaries who with the help of the UMEED Scheme have become self-sustained. Besides this, ADC also told the common masses about the “Local Complaint Committee” constituted at the district headquarter where aggrieved women can file their complaint against any kind of harassment being faced by them at their home or at work-place.
Earlier, the ADC was apprised about the scheme UMEED (National Rural Livelihood Mission) which has been launched in the district for generating different sources of livelihood by means of social mobilization, institution building and financial inclusion.
Block Project Manager, UMEED also highlighted some of the initiatives taken under the scheme.
BMO Chenani Mohammad Yaseen stressed upon the importance of proper nutrition and hygiene among the pregnant women and the adolescent girls.
District Social Welfare Officer, Rachna Sharma, who is also the nodal officer of BBBP Cell threw light on various social welfare schemes and also highlighted the importance of financial literacy for the empowerment of women.
She further told that the weeklong awareness campaign “Noor Jeevan Ka-Betiyan” would be held at different places across the district under different themes. District Information Center, Udhampur also organized a cultural programme on the occasion.
PO DRDA, Jagdish Chander Mehra conducted the proceedings of the whole programme.
Among others, District Information Officer, Esha Chib, Tehsildar Chenani Pardeep Singh, Naib Tehsildar Chenani, Tehsil Social Welfare Officer Chenani and a large number of women attended the awareness campaign.
