Sunil Sharma reviews MVD functioning

SRINAGAR: Minister of State for Transport, Sunil Kumar Sharma, today chaired a meeting to review the functioning of Motor Vehicles Department (MVD), Kashmir.

The meeting was attended by Commissioner Secretary Transport, Transport Commissioner, Regional Transport Officer Kashmir, Assistant Regional Transport Officers and other concerned officers.

The Minister was informed about various aspects of the departments functioning in detail. He directed the officers to conduct public awareness camps at regular intervals in the valley to aware the public about online services Department offers, besides to acquaint them with traffic rules and road safety programs.

The Minister directed the concerned to make department more public centric by bringing transparency in its functioning through making services available online. The Minister asked the concerned officers to come up with a comprehensive plan for identification of land for upgrading infra.

The meeting also held threadbare discussion on other related matters including conducting of driving tests daily and issuance of permits, driving licenses and fitness certificates for vehicles.

It was given that till February, 43845 vehicles have been registered, 1374 rout permits issued and 28473 rout permits renewed. Besides, 20855 fresh driving licenses stand issued while and 36325 driving licenses renewed. Similarly, 3670 fresh fitness certificates and 45531 renewal certificates have been issued till February, 2017.

The meeting was further informed that out of total vehicle population of 5.77 lakh, forty seven percent i.e 2.73 lakh have been affixed with HSR plates till February.
