Srinagar, Mar 16: Jammu and Kashmir State Incharge for Bharatiya Janta Party, Avinash Rai Khanna, today said that the BJP will decide on fielding candidates for the by-polls to Srinagar and Anantnag Lok Sabha seats keeping in mind its aim to bolster the kitty of NDA Government at the Centre.
Talking to reporters, Khanna said the aim of the BJP was to add two Lok Sabha seats of Kashmir to the NDA kitty. “We took the view of the party workers for the forthcoming by-polls to the two Lok Sabha constituencies and we will discuss that within our team here and we will then ultimately take that view with the central leadership to convey whether the Jammu and Kashmir unit wants to contest the polls or not. Whatever the centre decides, we will implement that decision accordingly. The plan is to add these two seats to the NDA kitty and we will work for that,” he said.
Asked about the possibility of election boycott, Khanna said: “The mandate that BJP has got and people are showing their belief in democracy, even then if the people are not able to understand, then I think it is unfortunate. When democracy is there, development will happen. MLAs and MLCs have been elected, ministers have been chosen and people are seeking redressal of their issues from them. So, creating hurdles in that democratic system, I think, will not be in the interest of this state”.
He also said that we condemn the threat posters from militants wherein people have been asked to refrain from the elections and said that people should participate in the election in large numbers and vote according to their wishes.
