JAMMU, Mar 22: World Water Day was celebrated across the State with enthusiasm and zeal.
Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Sham Lal Choudhary said it is the responsibility of each individual to save every drop of water not only for himself but also for his society, city, State and the World. The Minister said this while addressing the gathering during a seminar on theme, ‘Wastewater’ organized by Institution of Engineers (IEI), Jammu to mark the celebrations of World Water Day at Institutional Complex in Jammu.
Deliberating on the theme of this year’s World Water Day, the Minister said there is a growing need to recycle wastewater and reuse it for washing, cleaning, gardening and other purposes. The Minister called upon the engineers to ensure that people get clean and safe drinking water, besides providing sufficient water for irrigation to every agricultural field in the State. He further asked them to devise means for reusing wastewater released from households, industrial units and agricultural fields.
The engineers of the department including SC Thukral, PK Nanda, Vijay Kumar Sharma, Sewa Ram, Ranjeev Sawhney, Ashok Kumar Sharma, Akash Dusgotra and Rajesh Kumar Angural presented technical papers on the theme ‘Wastewater’ and deliberated on the benefits of reusing wastewater.
Central University of Kashmir (CUK) Vice-Chancellor, Prof Mehraj-ud-Din Mir expressed concern over the depleting water bodies and water resources in the State of Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in the valley.
Prof Mehraj ud Din Mir said this while delivering the presidential address during a function organized by the Directorate of Students Welfare (DSW) in collaboration with the Department of Tourism Studies to commemorate the World Water Day.
Special lectures and panel discussion were organized on this year’s theme “Conservation of Water Resources and Waste Water Management,”, which was also attended by Registrar, Prof M Afzal Zargar, Dean School of Business Studies, Prof S Fayyaz, Dean Students Welfare, Dr Fayaz A Nikka, senior faculty members, administrative officers, students and senior officials from Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA), Irrigation and Flood Control and Pollution Control Board. Chief Engineer, PHE Sushil Aima, Chief Engineer, I&FC Rajeev Gandotra, Chairman IEI, Jammu Ajay Gupta, Secretary, IEI, Jammu BL Rawal, Superintending Engineer, PHE Gagan Jyoti and Executive Engineer, I&FC Sunil Bhasin also highlighted the reuse of wastewater in the seminar.
Later, the artists of Nat Manch presented a skit giving a message of saving water to the audience.
World Water Day was celebrated by the cadets of 1 J&K Armd Sqn. GDC Kathua. On the occasion, Dr Nater Singh Raina, Principal Government Degree College Kathua was the chief guest. He aware the NCC cadets and the students regarding the importance of world water day. Dr Arun Dev Singh, Associate NCC Officer, Armd sqn. GDC Kathua was also present.
Nehru Yuva Kendar Rajouri celebrated World Water Day. Coordinator Nehru Yuva Kendar Rayaz Ahmed Mir threw light on the importance of the day. MLC Vibodh Gupta was chief guest on the occasion. Kamal Bakshi, Hemakant Sharma, Ashwani Kocchar and NYC volunteers were present on the occasion.
On the occasion of World Water Day, a program was organized at Village Mamka in which MLA RS Pura constituency Dr Gagan Bhagat was the chief guest. Dr Bhagat flagged a rally of school children in the presence of senior citizens of the Village Mamka and its adjoining villages. BDO Miran Sahib Mohammad Sayeed, SHO Miran Sahib Inspector Pawan Kumar, AEE PHE AK Bhatti, officials of the PHE Department, Headmaster Tara Sharma, BJP Mandal Pradhan Natharam, Harbhajan Singh, Ashok Kumar, Shamsher Lal, Darbari Lal, Sukhbir Singh, Ram Lal and other BJP workers were present on the occasion.
