Man detained for carrying jewellery, penalty imposed

JAMMU, Mar 25: Keeping hawks eye over tax evaders, the security staff of Jammu Airport detained one person carrying 335.54 grams jewellery amounting Rs 7,71,398.81.
According to SSP Anti Hijacking Jammu (AHJ), Rajinder Gupta, the security staff deployed at Jammu Airport detected 335.54 grams jewellery amounting Rs 7,71,398.81 in the possession of Suhail Mir, son of Abdul Qayoom Mir, a resident of Sonawar, Pulpura Srinagar.
The person was travelling from Jammu to Srinagar, he said, adding that the person had purchased the jewellery from Malabar Gold and Diamonds-AL Watan Centre, Dubai and was carrying it to his native area without paying tax.
SSP informed that the matter was brought into the notice of Khalid Majeed, Deputy Commissioner, Commercial Taxes (V&I) Jammu, who imposed a penalty of Rs 23,142 on the person for tax evasion.
It is pertinent to mention that a large number of tax evaders have been caught at Jammu Airport in the past one month.
