UDHAMPUR, Mar 26: MLA Udhampur and former Minister Pawan Gupta today  gave a clarion call to people of Jammu province to be ready for a decisive battle against the discrimination which this region has been subjected to for decades together through the hands of successive rulers.
Addressing a mammoth public meeting to pay homage to late  Lala Shiv Charan Gupta, a veteran leader from the State, MLA Udhampur asked people to be ready for a protracted struggle  to save the Jammu province from the dangers facing it. Questioning the New Delhi’s Kashmir policy he said it has only further aggravated the Kashmir’s political scene and endangered national security. The Central Government’s Kashmir policy is suicidal and fraught with dangerous consequences, he added.
Taking on Jammu & Kashmir Government in general and State BJP in particular, Pawan Gupta said that both have betrayed Jammu and deprived the people of the region of their basic rights.
In a hard hitting speech he said the two years long PDP-BJP regime is a tale of Jammu’s willful neglect and marginalization. He told the audience that there is no single Government Department which has not ignored Jammu’s legitimate rights, interests and share- be it service sector of PHE or Education or Health care. The people of Jammu province have been getting only crumbs and Kashmir is taking away almost everything, he added..
Expressing  grave concern over the rise of extremism in Kashmir, Pawan Gupta said that there are elements in Kashmir who now no more talk of autonomy, self rule and Azadi but for a theocratic dispensation. “We will not allow Jammu & Kashmir State to become a theocratic State”, he said and added that Jammu & Kashmir consists of three distinct regions and they have their own needs, compulsions and aspirations. “Jammu & Kashmir is a part of democratic India and there is no place for extremist ideology in the State”,.
Pawan Gupta said that it is he versus 88 in the Assembly. He bemoaned that there is none in the Assembly who is prepared to speak the truth and all appear on the same side. He said he is surmounting all the difficulties by the Kashmir Centric political class and obtaining for the Udhampur Constituency as much funds as possible. He catalogued the developmental works he has undertaken in the Constituency and reassured the people that no house even in a remote area will not be without potable drinking water and other basic facilities including road connectivity.
He appealed the public of Udhampur to strengthen his hands so that he not only converts Udhampur into a model Constituency but the whole of Jammu Province making all-round progress. He said Jammu province needs a new leadership which is committed to Jammu Province and the Nation and which is competent to defeat the separatists and communal tendencies in the State.
