JAMMU, Mar 27: Jammu and Kashmir Congress Vichar Vibhag, an intellectual wing of the Congress organized an interactive meet on ” historical victory of Congress in Punjab Assembly elections” at Jammu today.
The programme was chaired by Ashok Sharma, Ex-MLA/MLC and Coordinator, Vichar Vibhag, AICC. Various social and political activists, intellectuals and former legislators attended the meet.
The participants observed that the historical land slide victory of Congress in Punjab bagging 65.81% of the total Assembly seats is the best performance of the party since 1957 against the ruling dispensation (SAD-BJP) combined bagging only 15% of the seats, which is historically low of alliance partners .
They observed that the able leadership under the stewardship of Capt Arminder Singh has paid dividends. It was also observed that the mood of masses for political change in the state and the related factors were well perceived by the party and intelligently incorporated in the vibrant election manifesto.
The Congress Party focused on the 33 Congress dominated assembly segments where AAP had gained lead during 2014 Lok Sabha elections and party this time won 20 seats in Assembly elections out of these 33 seats. This also forced the AAP to focus on the other seats as new green postures and resulted. This acted as game changer for the party which also benefited the Congress indirectly. The designation of Capt Amrinder Singh as Punjab Congress president in November, 2016 itself as undisputed leader of the party was timely and appropriate decision.
Those who participated included Dr (Prof) PS Patha, BS Jamwal former Dy Commissioner, Col Bana Ram, Mahesh Gupta, Subhash Shastri, Dr Rameshwar Dass, Rajiv Jandyal, Hari Om, Harbans Lal, Ghulam Hassan Khan, Zahid Sarfraz Malik, Naresh Sharma and Capt Lalit Sharma.
