SRINAGAR, Oct 15: Abdul Haq Khan, MLA, Lolab, called on N N Vohra, Governor, at Raj Bhavan here today and presented to him development-oriented demands of the area.
Among the issues raised by Mr Khan included, taking measures for construction of Lolab-Bandipore tunnel, availability of funds for the construction of Lolab bye-pass road and under construction bridges in the area within envisaged timelines.
Other demands put forth by the MLA included setting up of a separate Tourism Development Authority for Lolab, launching of a special recruitment drive by the State Police for the youth of the area and provision of supply of timber to the inhabitants of Lolab on concessional rates.
Meanwhile, a deputation of the JK People’s Party met Mr Vohra.
The deputation, led by Imran Rahi, President, JK People’s Party and Chairman, Forum for Peaceful Resolution, discussed with the Governor, the measures which are required to be taken to rehabilitate the ex-militants. They also discussed with the Governor the issues relating to strengthening peace process in the State.
The Governor gave a patient hearing to the deputation, which included Shahzad Ahmed and Syed Khursheed, and agreed to take up their concerns with the Chief Minister.
A deputation of the Imami Association, Karnah also met Mr Vohra, and presented to him a memorandum of demands.
The problems and demands presented by the deputation led by Syed Hussain, President of the Association, related to local problems and need for securing the rapid development of the area.
The Governor heard the deputation, which included Prof. Abid Gulzar, and promised to take up their problems with the Chief Minister.
