SRINAGAR, Oct 15: N N Vohra, Governor, today observed that Jammu and Kashmir, bestowed with enchanting snowcapped mountains, beautiful rivers and lush green meadows, provides a tremendous potential for the promotion of trekking, mountaineering, skiing, white water rafting and various other forms of adventure tourism in the State.
The Governor made these observations after observing panoramic photographs which depict the entire mountain ranges on North-East and South-West of the Kashmir valley, highlighted by Nanga Parbat, Nun and Kun, Brahamma, Sickle Moon, Kolohai and Harmukh peaks. These exceptional photographs of the entire mountain ranges girdling the Valley have been taken by Mehmood Ahmad Shah, Chief Executive Officer, Gulmarg Development Authority.
The Governor observed that prominent display of such rare panoramic photographs would enable visitors to appreciate and decide what they want to see and where they want to go and thus help in promoting adventure tourism in the State. He added that these photographs need to be prominently displayed in identified institutions in all the three regions of the State so as to familiarize the students as well as tourists about the geography of J&K. He suggested that the Tourism Department could earmark a suitable venue for the permanent display of this panorama so that awareness about the J&K mountains can be enlarged. He said that he would also take up the matter with the Indian Mountaineering Federation for displaying this panorama.
