JAMMU, Oct 15: The three-day Annual International Conference on the theme “Education for a changing World”, was organised by the University of Jammu in collaboration with the Comparative Education Society of India (CESI), here at ‘Brigadier Rajinder Singh Auditorium’.
Vice-Chancellor University of Jammu, Prof Mohan Paul Singh Ishar inaugurated the conference.
Dean Research Studies, University of Jammu, Prof. Rekha Chowdhary and Dr. S. Srinivasa Rao, General Secretary, CESI, welcomed the guests and the delegates.
Prof. Prabhat Patnaik, UGC Emeritus Fellow, Centre for Economic Studies and Planning (CESP) JNU, presented the key note address on the theme, while Prof. Jandhyala B.G.Tilak (President CESI), Prof. Geetha B. Nambissan (Vice-President CESI) and Prof. Amman Madan (member, Executive Committee, CESI) were also present on the occasion.
Prof. Renu Nanda, conference organizing secretary and joint secretary CESI, presented vote of thanks.
About 60 parallel technical and poster sessions were held during three day conference on different broad sub-themes like “Education in the Era of Reforms: Examining Gendered Intersectionalities”; “Transforming Higher Education Scenarios”; “Media and Networks in Education”; “Regulation and Governance Issues in Higher Education”; “Teacher, Curriculum and Teacher Education”; “Student Activism, Movements and University Campuses”; “Margins of Education: Historical Studies”; “Education of Children in difficult Situations”; “Development Sector Initiatives in Education: Stories from the field”; “Educational Governance”; “Education and Marginal Groups”; “Curriculum, Pedagogy and Human Development”; “Literacy, Knowledge and Skills” etc.
Scholars from different Universities of India as well as some foreign universities like Nepal, United States of America, United Kingdom, South Africa, Chile, etc. presented their research papers under different sub-themes. These sessions were chaired by eminent Academicians like Prof. Uma Chakravarti, Prof Nargis Panchapakesan, Prof Aaron Benavot, Prof Rekha Chowdhary, Prof Abha Chauhan, Prof. Poonam Dhawan, Prof G.M. Bhat, Prof. Dipankar Sen Gupta, Prof Ashok Aima and Prof.. V.S. Manhas to name a few.
Some other highlights of the conference were the ‘Pre-Conference Workshop’ that was held on October 9, 2012 which was attended by almost 35 delegates from different universities of India and abroad.
A documentary film on the hardships faced by a woman in life, titled ‘The Quiet Little Entry’ by Prof Uma Chakravarty was filmed on the occasion which was appreciated by the viewers.
