UDHAMPUR, Mar 30: Former Minister and MLA Udhampur Pawan Gupta strongly criticized BJP-PDP Government for its failure in seeking justice for Jammu region in matter of enhancement of seats for post-graduate courses in various disciplines of MD & MS pertaining to medical education.
In a statement issued here today he said Kashmir valley once again stands hugely benefitted by getting a lion’s-share of 57 seats as against 13 to Jammu region.
He pointed out that it is a matter of great concern that Jammu province which is having more than 60% area in comparison to Kashmir valley and also Jammu region is providing 70% of revenue resources to the State budget is absolutely getting raw deal from this Government in every field and the region has been absolutely left behind by ignoring its interests in development and other infrastructure needs. He pointed out that the Health and Medical Education budget for Kashmir Valley is almost double than Jammu region i.e. Rs 1627 crore is budgeted for Kashmir valley as against Rs 924 crore for Jammu region. This speaks volumes of discrimination has been meted out to Jammu region.
He pointed out that three Government medical colleges have been established in Kashmir valley whereas for the same number of population Jammu has meagerly been provided with one medical college and that too sans so many facilities. It is a matter of great concern that poor public of Jammu have continued to suffer at the hands of various political dispensations and had pinned great hope on State BJP to provide justice to Jammu region.
He further pointed out that it is a matter of great disappointment that Jammu Medical College lacks the basic medical facility of modular operation theatres which are prerequisite for a medical institute and even lacks C-Arm X-ray machine in emergency ward thus rendering patients at great risk. There is a strong deficiency of ventilator machines forcing the emergent patients either losing their life for want of ventilators (life giving support) or forcing them to move to private institutes causing to them to bear huge financial burden.
Pawan said that besides discrimination in allotment of funds the present government has proven to be more detrimental and prejudicial to interests of Jammu people and they feel extremely dejected and betrayed by investing in huge and unprecedented mandate provided to BJP from Jammu region.
He said under present dispensation the present State Public Service Commission is acting in a blatantly biased manner and only 20% of the selections made in various gazetted cadre posts are from Jammu region and have inflicted great injustice to the young and deserving students from this region coupled with the fact that J&K Bank has been the biggest culprit in discriminating and selecting only 20% candidates from Jammu region.
