3 yrs RI awarded to Sub Post Master

SRINAGAR, Mar 31: Special Judge Anticorruption CBI Cases Srinagar, Yash Pal Kotwal today awarded 3 years rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs 3 lakh to Sub Post Master Imtiyaz Ahmad Lone of Sopore.
According to the CBI case, Imtiyaz Ahmad Lone while being posted as Sub Post Master, Sub Post Office Sangrma Sopore, entered into criminal conspiracy with Fayaz Ahmad Najar of Baramulla and in furtherance of the same they collected telephone revenue from the subscribers and issued fake receipts. Even in some cases receipts were not issued but entries were made in the telephone revenue lists.
Imtiyaz Ahmad Lone prepared fake and false TRC lists in respect of the amount collected by them and forwarded the lists to BSNL Baramulla without remitting the amount to the Head Post Office and BSNL. In this way, they misappropriated an amount of Rs 251860 and Rs 99687 respectively.
After hearing Asifa Padroo, SPP for CBI whereas Advocate Qazi Manzoor for the accused, Special Judge Anticorruption CBI cases observed, “the prosecution has succeeded in establishing charges framed against Imtiyaz Ahmad Lone beyond any reasonable doubt as such he is found guilty of offences punishable under Sections 409, 420,467,471, RPC and 5(2) r/w 5(1) (d) of J&K Prevention of Corruption Act”.
However, he was acquitted of the offence punishable under Section 120-B RPC. “Prosecution has failed to prove its case against second accused as such he is acquitted of the charges framed against him”, the court said.
Accordingly, the court awarded three years years rigorous imprisonment on each count and a consolidated fine of Rs 3,00,000 to Imtiyaz Ahmad Lone.
