Crime rate

Sir,
This refers to the news item “Suspend Kalmadi from IOA: IOC (DE dated 7th Oct). By nominating A Raja and Suresh Kalmadi on the parliamentary panels, the UPA in a way has proved that in an excessive open democracy like that of ours decorating, rewarding and encouraging the tainted, judicially condemned and offending dignitaries has made the criminal justice delivery system of our country very sluggish with the result that a commonman’s interest in the prevailing judicial system is decreasing which ultimately results in the fattening and multiplication of the crimes. Besides criticism by the national press and some political parties, the IOC on the advice of its Ethics Committee, which discussed the relevant criminal cases threadbare, has not only suspended Kalmadi, Verma and Bhanot from all the functions of the IOA but has also recommended that as per Code of ethics, Kalmadi, Verma and Bhanot can not stand as candidates for any position of the IOA. What a big change we find in our social system that it is no stigma or sense of disgrace if some dignitaries get punished by the judiciary or are put behind the bars face the people’s wrath for some unlawful activities whereas a commoner, for any reasons, including the reason of error of judgement, is put behind the bars he or she in most of the cases, feels as if the very best of his, her worth and sheen is destroyed and a sort of depression keeps such commoners away from those who happen to know them. It is equally surprising that to what extent, they who reward, encourage or gloriously rehabilitate such stigmatized dignitaries, go un- bothered about the public opinion, morality, ethics and the basic principles of jurisprudence.
Yours etc…..
