NCB busts Kashmir-Maharashtra drug traffickers’ racket

JAMMU, Apr 1: Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has busted Kashmir-Maharashtra drug traffickers’ racket with the arrest of one person and recovery of cannabis (charas) from his possession.
According to Manoj Kumar, Zonal Director, NCB Jammu said that a person was arrested along with 11.848 kilograms charas from general bus stand here yesterday. The consignment was kept in a bag beneath the clothes.
The man was smuggling the cannabis from District Anantnag, Kashmir to Nasik, Maharashtra via New Delhi, Kumar said, adding that this is the third seizure of charas affected by this unit during the month of March.
Manoj Kumar has further informed that during the past 15 days the unit has got success not only in affecting seizures but also got substantive linkages between the Kashmir Valley-Mumbai/ Ahmedabad based drug traffickers.
He further stated that as per the inputs being received and as revealed from the interrogation of the arrestees, a huge quantity of charas and other contraband are being trafficked to other parts of the country from Kashmir valley and all the means of transport like light vehicle, taxis and trucks are being used for this purpose.
Apart from this, NCB Zonal Unit Jammu in collaboration with the State Excise Department, Lakhanpur has also got success in seizing of 296 bottles of banned syrup and 4704 intoxicant capsules while surprise checking of vehicles at Toll Plaza Lakhanpur. The contraband had been concealed in a bag loaded in the truck, he said, adding that the origin of the drug was New Delhi and it was destined to Sopore, Kashmir Valley.
