WD likely to affect J&K on Apr 4 to 6; landslides, rain predicted

SRINAGAR: An active Western Disturbance (WD) is likely to affect Jammu and Kashmir from tomorrow to April 6 which could result in widespread rain or snow on higher reaches.

A Met department spokesman said here this afternoon that a WD, originating from Arabian sea and entering the region through Afghanistan and Pakistan, will hit the region tomorrow.

He said light rain at scattered to fairly widespread places with snowfall on higher reaches is likely to commence from tomorrow. The intensity and spatial distribution of precipitation will increase from tomorrow evening with widespread rainfall or snowfall (on higher reaches) on April 5 and 6 across the State.

He said there is possibility of landslides, snow avalanche in vulnerable areas like Srinagar-Jammu and Srinagar-Leh, particularly Zojila pass on the highway on April 5 and 6. (AGENCIES)
