JAMMU, Apr 5: Tightening its noose on smugglers Samba police and SOG Jammu in its continuous drive against them has seized 32 kgs of charas valuing about Rs 10 lakh in international market at Mansar Morh late last night.
The Police also arrested both the smugglers carrying the contraband. According to police on the directives of SSP Samba Anil Magotra and SP SOG Jammu Vinay Sharma, SHO Police Station Samba Yashpal Singh constituted a team and laid a naka at Mansar Morh near Sambha late last night.
During the naka the police team intercepted one LP truck bearing registration Number JK-18/ 2577. During the search of vehicle police recovered 32 kgs of charas. Both the driver and conductor of the truck were arrested. They have been identified as Manzoor Ahmed S/o Gulam Hussain, 38, R/o Kacchachkot Teh. Awantipoora district Pulwama Srinagar, Shahnaz Ganai S/o Bashir Ahmed Ganai, 23, R/o Kacchachkot Teh. Awantipora district Pulwama Srinagar. The truck was coming from Kashmir valley towards Kathua.
In this regard a case was registered in PS Samba under FIR No. 69/2017 U/S 8/20 NDPS ACT against both the persons. The police has put the duo on sustained interrogation to find out the source of supply and also the market where the contraband was to be handed over.
It may be recalled that Samba Police during last over one month has launched continuous drive against the drug peddlers, bovine and Charras smugglers to defeat their designs and save the society from the ill effects of drug menace. The drive launched by police has also yielded results as large quantity of banned drugs, charras, heroin as well as bovine animals were seized by Samba during last over one month. Besides some notorious criminals involved in various criminal activities who were evading arrest for quite long time were also arrested.
