Indefinite hunger strike by students enters 11th day

DODA, Oct 16: Demanding starting of PG classes in Doda Campus of Jammu University vis-à-vis Commerce stream in the Government Degree College (GDC), the indefinite hunger strike by the students entered 11th day, here today.
Students including girls from Government Degree College, Girls Higher Secondary School, Boys Higher Secondary School, ITI College and other Colleges, led by Mukesh Parihar, district president, All India Students Federation (AISF), raised slogans against the Jammu university authorities and the Education Department for not redressing the problems being faced by the students community of the district.
In support of students sitting on hunger strike for the last 11 days, Doda observed complete bandh.
Addressing the gathering, Mukesh Parihar, condemned the statement of Prof Naresh Padha, Registrar, Jammu University that there is no such Campus of Jammu University at Doda.
He demanded, starting of PG Classes in Doda Campus, University of Jammu, appointment of Rector at Doda Campus, starting of Commerce stream in GDC, hostels for Boys and Girls at district Headquarter and implementation of half fare charges to students.
Meanwhile, Trade Union, Handloom Non-Gazette Employees Association Jammu Province, Workers Supervisor Association, Patwar Association Doda, Doda Welfare Society, BAR Association, Civil Society, Low Paid employees, Educational Development Society, General public and various organizations also extended support to the ongoing agitation of the students.
