Tributes paid to student leaders

Student leaders and relatives of student martyrs at Shaheedi Sthal, GGM Science College Jammu on Tuesday.
JAMMU, Oct 16: Rich tributes were paid to students namely Brij Mohan, Subash Chander, Gulshan Handa and Guru Charan Singh, who were killed in firing during an agitation for student cause in the year 1966.
The students killed in the firing were demanding Medical, Engineering and Educational institutions for Jammu and laid down their lives during the agitation.
Principal of the Government Gandhi Memorial (GGM) Science College, Dr Satinder Singh, along with staff members, students and activists of various student organizations assembled at Shaheedi Sthal and paid tributes to the students, who were killed in firing in the year 1966.
Later, Rajinder Singh, president, Jammu Joint Students’ Federation (JJSF) along with Rahul Verma, Abhinav Sharma and Sunil Kumar sat on fast at Shaheedi Sathal.
While speaking, Rajinder Singh, said that every year October 16, 17 and 18 are observed as martyrs day in Jammu as in the year 1966, four students namely Brij Mohan, Subash Chander, Gulshan Handa and Guru Charan Singh had faced brutal action of the then administration.
The martyrs were raising their voice against the discrimination with the Jammu region and laid down their lives for the sake of the Jammu people, Singh added.
He said that these martyrs would always remain in their heart and always inspire them to fight for cause of the Jammu region especially with the students’ community. He added that JJSF would perform a hawan in the memory of martyrs at Shaheedi Sathal.
Among others who spoke were Satish Kumar, Sanjay Sharma, Kuldeep Kumar, Ajay Kumar, Rajesh Gupta, Abhi Gupta, Sunny Sharma, Manu Dubey, Sumit Sharma, Vikrant Langeh, Arif, Deepak, Sunil Kumar and Pankaj Singh.
Meanwhile, Munna Khajuria, district youth president, Jammu Kashmir Democratic Front (JKDF) along with other activists of the front also paid tributes to the martyrs.
They paid floral tributes to the student martyrs, who lost their lives in police firing during an agitation in 1966.
Munish Khajuria while speaking said that their sacrifices would be remembered by the Jammuites forever. The supreme sacrifices of the students are sources of inspiration for the students of Jammu, he added.
Activists of JKDF present were Ravi Dogra, Abhishek Slathia, Rohit Kerni, Virender Singh, Ankush Sharma, Nikhil Sharma, Harpreet Singh, Naveen Sharma, Sanjay Sharma, Aman, Akshay Sharma, Shallu, Krishen Kapoor, Raman Sharma, Anil Balgotra, etc.
