Removing stones for growth

Shiban  Khaibri
For many years, following setting in of the proxy war in Kashmir by Pakistan and facilitated by its agent saboteurs and misguided youth, the select intellectual club would account for the reasons of surfacing of terrorism, besides other silly grounds, as poverty, unemployment, alienation and corruption. Some would add “rigged elections” too. Not claiming to be an intellectual, this writer has all along been questioning these reasons.  In other words , there are no  economic reasons which led to the start of destruction of the soul of Kashmir , the reasons being purely religious or blatantly  communal in blind endorsement of  two nation “logic” which was forcefully “invented” by   Sir Syed Ahmed Khan , conceptualized by poet laureate Iqbal and which ultimately saw practicality albeit by Jinnah in the shape of the birth of Pakistan. The Prime Minister after inaugurating Asia’s longest modern  Chenani Nashri  high tech 10 kms long tunnel , terming it as a big developmental push in the Valley, the reactions of the separatists and some “main stream ” Kashmiri politicians was , “Kashmir needs political solution and not economic solution”. “We do not need funds and money any more but talks with all stake holders mainly Pakistan”, is the stereo type reaction by this Kashmir centric political club. This club singing in chorus with the anti India forces aim at throttling the views of the majority of those who know it is the bread and butter first and any other thing later. Those ones, of course, many of them could be seen in long queues in Baramulla and other army recruitment offices, even resulting in stampedes because of the surge in employment seekers,   braving the threats and diktats of terror outfits and Hurriyat conglomeration. Amidst darkness spread by Pakistani most nefarious designs, there appears to be a dim light still showing its existence. That dim light promising to take on the engulfing darkness was bullied hard into silence by the imported guns and grenades of Pakistan. Sunday Guardian has revealed that Pakistan’s terror budget (exclusively for Kashmir) stood at Rs. 1000 crore which was used to recruit stone pelting “force” and funding their day to day “wages” , routed via separatists in Kashmir. Notorious ISI was handling this entire morbid show of treachery and labeling it as indigenous “Aazadi movement”.
The Prime Minister passionately but firmly exhorted the misguided youth , those having fallen prey to the religious fanaticism , hate and asking for a separate pound of flesh on the basis of bigotry, founded and sustained by Pakistan to pick tourism and not terrorism. The tourism industry of the state, particularly of Kashmir valley had economic potentiality of generating moderate to heavy incomes and promise of employment in a huge manner. With each passing day, money spending capacity of people was increasing, with surge in salaries, wages and other money incomes the propensity of spending on travel, visit, lodge, holiday and the like was more which could provide ample opportunities for people attached directly and indirectly with tourism industry. Pakistan knows it fully and to achieve its political objective about daydreaming of Kashmir, it was creating unrest on a massive scale to cripple this traditional industry as also cause schools and colleges to be burnt so that the young students had no infrastructure to study and build careers but to join their brand of “jihad” and stone pelting industry. The people of Kashmir had to understand it now, the sooner the better.
Jibbing stone pelting “brigade “, the Prime Minister had it in a better way. He told the huge gathering in Bhattal Bhalian, Udhampur rally that some  misguided  youth threw stones on the army, while others removed stones for development and dressed and carved them for growth and progress. He was referring to 2000 of them engaged in employment in contributing their mite towards the process of making of this magnificent tunnel which was the technological and engineering marvel of modern times.  This tunnel besides shortening the distance between Jammu and Kashmir would save time and more so, fuel which was estimated  conservatively  as Rs. 27 lac per day or Rs. 99 crore annually. At least, 10 of more tunnels were planned in the region which could throw huge employment opportunities for the people in the State.
The PM lamented for the blood spilled over 40 long years and very emotionally described  the entire blood lost as Indian , whether “our security forces, or our civilians, the Indian blood spilled”. He hailed the spirit of the Jammu and Kashmir and felt that the tunnel would preserve the nation.
The “Talk with Pakistan and other stake holders club” lost no opportunity in parroting their “Political solution” , referring to “unprecedentedly bold initiatives ” by Vajpayee Government.  Now the time has come when plain and simple business was talked as to what “solution” they had in mind in respect of Kashmir conundrum. Do they want independent Kashmir, merging it with Pakistan or granting of “Autonomy”. In other words if Indian Government is pressurized by this club to talk and to hold dialogue, then we must be knowing what was there in mind to put across the dialogue table. Autonomy, besides the National Conference, none was even remotely interested. Pakistan for which many chests are beating as being “stake holder” shall ab- initio reject it. Independent Kashmir was also not acceptable to this “stake holder” and the third, i.e.; merger with Pakistan as a result of holding a plebiscite was not and never a cake walk for this “stake holder”. To make that obsolete plebiscite as any “solution” which only suits Pakistan and her agents in the valley , it has first to revert to the then existing position as on August 15, 1947  of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. That clearly means that Pakistan had first to vacate immediately Gilgit, Baltistan and also entire PoK.  Not only that, what is more important is that it has to get the state back more than 1942 square kilometers which it has ceded to China.  Just do not stop at that, mock Pakistan’s “fifth state” of Gilgit Baltistan . Its geographical boundary with PoK cannot make it any separate from being part and parcel of undivided Jammu and Kashmir. It also has to disband and bulldoze China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC ) which passes through the region . Pakistan is instead trying to daydream give constitutional cover to CPEC under tremendous pressure from China. With this move, let it be known Pakistan has closed the file of its “Juglar Vein” forever and with what face, it and its agents in the four districts of the valley claim  !) talks and dialogue by India,   !!) discussing “pending issue” of Kashmir  in isolation  of undecided fate of  PoK , Gilgit – Baltistan and CPEC?
To call a spade a spade, India knows this intrinsic weakness of Pakistan hence is definitely in the commanding position to forcefully reassert “Kashmir is a settled issue right from Oct 26, 1947, a part of the Union of India and no one could ever think of any change in it” unless Pakistan maintains status quo as it existed on August 15, 1947, withdraws all defence forces from occupied areas and declares that it had no border with China.
This stark fact both of historic perspective, diplomatic wisdom and strategic bi lateral relations has to be understood by Pakistan and her agents and sympathizers in Kashmir. The Kashmir centric “mainstream” politicians who chant the chorus of “talks, Dialogue, Confidence building measures etc” have to understand it and direct their energies towards achieving of the above objectives to “settle the pending issue” of Kashmir by impressing upon Pakistan to look sharp and wind up lock, stock and barrel from PoK , Gilgit, Baltistan and bulldoze  CPEC to “settle” Kashmir issue.
The fact of the matter is that these dialogue chanters fully know this cardinal fact. They just try to black mail New Delhi but to their bad luck, it is a different government there. It showed to the world community its intentions not to build walls and forts with Pakistan but to remove the existing ones as the initiatives taken unilaterally by Modi Ji even air dashing unscheduled (ly) to felicitate the Pakistani PM even on his birthday and participate in marriage ceremonies was acclaimed everywhere but we got Pathankot, Uri and other similar responses just like Vajpayee ji got Kargil.
Stop citing Vajpayee as you, the “dialogue club” are mum on Kargil. Stop motivating Modi Ji by Vajpayee’s example as you are silent on Pathankot, Uri and other acts of treachery by that country against India which has its article of faith to inflict cuts and bleed India 1000 times. We have bled more than 1000 times but we are resilient, emerged yet strong and shall grow stronger. Pakistan must behave in a matured friendly manner and learn lessons on good neighbourliness in her own interests, yes for its continued existence as a country.
