JAMMU, Apr 7: People of Panchayat Kotli Tanda (Akhnoor) today held a protest against Rural Development Department alleging irregularities in delimitation of their panchayat.
A large number of people including young and old, and man and women hailing from Panchayat Kotli Tanda led by Master Jaswant Singh assembled on Akhnoor-Rajouri Road and started raising slogans against the Rural Development Department, Akhnoor.
The protesting villagers alleged that delimitation process of Panchayat Kotli Tanda was done in an irregular manner by the concerned officials just to favour some blue eyed persons. They said that despite approaching time and again and submitting memorandum to the officials of the concerned department in this connection, no heed was paid to their demand.
Demanding that the whole delimitation process of the Panchayat Kotli Tanda be done again, the protesting villagers block Akhnoor-Rajouri Road and disrupted vehicular traffic for hours together.
On getting information, a police team from police station Akhnoor led by SHO, Inspector Pushpinder Singh and SDPO Akhnoor, Gurinder Pal Singh, reached the spot and pacified the protesting people by assuring them that the matter will be taken up with the concerned higher ups.
On getting assurance from police officials, the protestors lifted the blockade and the vehicular traffic was restored on the busy Akhnoor-Rajouri Road.
