JAMMU, Apr 9: Smile Train, an international NGO, in partnership with Bee Enn General Hospital, Jammu has provided over 350 free cleft lip and palate surgeries to the underprivileged children born with this birth defect.
To celebrate this achievement and to create more awareness about cleft lip and palate, a Cleft Week was organized from April 3 to 9, 2017 across Jammu.
Speaking at the event organized by the hospital, Dr Sanjana Sikri, Manager Programs Smile Train commended the role of Bee Enn General Hospital and share the Smile Train plan to provide free cleft lip surgery to around more than 50,000 patients through-out India.
The entire Medical team includes Dr Suhael Zahur (Plastic Surgeon and Project Director, Smile Train at Bee Enn General Hospital), Dr Anuradha Bali (Pediatric Anesthetist) and Dr Vikas Mahajan (Pediatrician and Neonatologist).
Dr Suhael said, “We meet many families every day who are not aware about cleft and consider it as God’s curse. This year, our team will undertake more awareness programs so that people can be told that cleft is an easily correctible medical deformity. We are humbled by the opportunity to change children’s lives and bring a smile to not only the children, but the whole family,”Dr Suhael added.
Speaking about the partnership with Smile Train, Dr Suhael said, “Smile Train has empowered us to apply our skills to help children and give back to the society. Correction of clefts is one of the most satisfying surgical experiences for a plastic surgeon. ”
On the occasion, Managing Trustee informed that Bee Enn Charitable Trust is committed to provide free services of cleft lip and palate to the patients of Jammu & Kashmir.
