JAMMU, Apr 9: Sarveshwar Dayal Saxena’s ‘Dhaniya’ a new play in Hindi was presented here today at Natrang’s Sunday Theatre Series.
The engrossing performance was directed by Neeraj Kant. Natrang has been featuring the plays of different genres, different languages, regions, countries and themes for the Jammu audience through its Sunday Theatre Series.
Set up in a rural background, the story of the play revolved around an elderly couple ‘Hori and Dhaniya’ in which Dhaniya emerged as the main protagonist. The intelligence of the writer made many issues expressed through this couple. ‘Dhaniya’, an out-rightly revolutionary lady always takes the side of the truth, no matter who gets affected by its outcome. When it comes to helping others, Dhaniya is always encouraging even if their own condition is not so good. When it came to book the culprit who deceitfully poisoned their cow, she was the only outspoken lady in the house and ironically the culprit was from their blood relation. Because of her humanitarian approach, she even stood against the whole village while helping a needy widow. These were a few of the instances which were presented in the play which portrayed the character of Dhaniya, full of conviction. She was an epitome of righteousness, courage and women empowerment and acts as a source of inspiration for the audience.
Through her, the writer exemplified that to stand against the wrong, internal will is more important than the physical strength.
Natrang actors Vrinda Sharma and Brijesh Avtar Sharma as ‘Dhaniya’ and ‘Hori’ performed their characters very sensibly. Others who acted in the play included Abhee Bargotra, Akshit Koul, Aman Kapoor and Bhisham Gupta. The lights were operated by Neeraj Kant and the music was rendered by Mahikshit Singh. The show was coordinated by Mohd Yaseen. Shivam Singh did the presentations.
