DGPC organises ‘Gatka’ contest for Sikh youth

JAMMU, Apr 9: First Virasat-e-Khalsa,  `Gatka’ contest was held at Gurdwara Yadghar Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Chand Nagar, here under the supervision of  District Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, Jammu.
Divisional Commissioner, Jammu Dr Pawan Kotwal was the chief guest on the occasion and S.Tarlochan Singh Wazir, president, State Gurdwara Parbandhak,  Board (J&K) was the guest of honour.
The chief guest was honoured by  Mr Wazir and the guest of honour by Jagjeet Singh, president, District Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, Jammu.
Kuldeep Singh, vice president, District Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee Jammu,  Mohinder Singh, joint secretary, DGPC, Jathedar Mohinder Singh, Member, DGPC Jammu and president, Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) J&K were also present.
The proceedings of the stage were conducted by the  Avtar Singh Khalsa, general secretary, DGPC Jammu.
While addressing the gathering DGPC general secretary informed the gathering that nine Gatka Akhara (Party) participated in the competition from all over the Jammu, Kathua, Samba, RS Pura etc.
Divisional Commissioner, Jammu encouraged the youth to participate in sports events and remain away from the drugs menace.
Tarlochan Singh Wazir in his address informed that he will do his best to include the game of  `Gatka’ at every level in sports events.
Jagjeet Singh,  president, District Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee Jammu presented the vote of thanks.
The competition was conducted by the judges namely:  Ranjit Singh,  Amarjit Singh and the referees were Rupinder Singh, Lovepreet Singh, Yashpreet Singh, Parvinder Singh, Gurvinder Singh and Ramanjot Singh.
Prominent among those who were present on the occasion were KD Singh, Amrik Singh Roshan, Sukhdev Singh, Kulvinder Singh, Ravinder Singh Rozy.
Declaration of result of the competitions and prize distribution will be held by Dr Roop Singh, Secretary, SGPC, Amritsar,  on  April 13, 2017 on the occasion of Baisakhi (Khalsa Sajna Diwas) at Gurdwara Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Chand Nagar, Jammu.
