JAMMU, Apr 9: Shiv Sena Hindustan (SSH) today slammed PDP-BJP coalition Government for being lax in allowing the settlement of over 6,000 Rohingya Muslims in Hindu dominated Jammu region and demanded that immediate measures should be taken to stop the illegal settlement of Bangladeshi Muslims in Jammu.
Addressing the media persons here today, State president of Shiv Sena Hindustan, Pt Rajesh Kesri said that the Rohingya Muslims started coming to Jammu region over six years back and “over a period of time their number has increased”. “They are mostly doing odd-jobs and are rag-pickers and even do begging to eke out a living,” he said.
Kesri demanded that the State Government should spell out a policy on “whether Rohingya and Bangladeshi Muslims can stay in the State.” “It is a very serious matter and the Government should find out how they have come to the State. Most of these Bangladeshis are beggars and street hawkers who are acquainted with the nook and corners of Jammu, which in terms of security is a very big threat. We will ask the Government to be serious about the issue and clear its policy,” he said.
Kesri demanded that those Bangladeshi and Rohingya Muslims who are living illegally here should be dealt sternly. He demanded that a head count of the people who are residing in the State should be done. He lashed out at BJP for hoodwinking public opinion over the issue of Rohingya and Bangladeshis migrants in Jammu, saying instead of acting against the illegal settlers, its leaders were playing to the galleries to hog the headlines.
