Healthy diet best weapon to fight CDV disease: Dr Sushil

JAMMU, Apr 9: To drive their campaign further to aware the people about the effects of cardiovascular diseases, Dr. Sushil Sharma (HOD Cardiology GMCH & SSH Jammu) held a day long camp at Govt. Girls Middle School, Kotli Bhagwan Singh ,Miran Sahib today.
Accompanied by a team of young doctors, paramedics and volunteers, Dr. Sharma examined people of the area for prevalence of cardiac diseases and other health ailments. More than 200 people were screened. They were thoroughly evaluated, diagnosed and free medicines were given as per the requirement.
While interacting with the people, Dr Sushil said the role of diet is crucial in the development and prevention of cardiovascular disease. “Diet is one of the key things you can change that will impact all other cardiovascular risk factors. Comparisons between a diet low in saturated fats, with plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables and the typical diet of someone living in the developed world show that in the former there is a 73% reduction in the risk of new major cardiac events. It’s the overall pattern of our choices that counts. However its often tough to change your eating habits. Whether you have years of unhealthy eating under your belt or you simply want to fine-tune your diet. Simple measures such as control your portion size, eat more vegetables and fruits, select whole grains, limit unhealthy fats, choose low fat proteins and reduce sodium intake,” he added.
He highlighted that healthy dietery pattern are dependent on other important variable such as age and physical activity and also advised people to control other risks factor in addition to diet.
Others, who were part of this effort, included, Dr. Dhaneshwar Kapoor, Dr Anitipal Singh and Dr Chakshu Mahajan. Paramedics and Volunteers who were part of the team included  Kamal Kishore, Kashmiri Lal, Raghav Rajput, Suresh Sharma, Raj Kumar,Ankush Kohli, Vikas Sabharwal, Akshay Kumar, Harvinder Singh,Rajinder Singh, Aman Gupta, Rajeev Vohra, Rohit khajuria and Vikas Kumar.
