Srinagar, Apr 15: Militants tonight shot dead a ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) worker and critically injured another in South Kashmir district of Pulwama.
Militants tonight barged into the house of Bashir Ahmad Dar, 30, son of Abdul Rehman Dar of Qasbayar in Pulwama, a PDP worker and maternal uncle of a Police officer and fired at him indiscriminately. He was removed to hospital where he succumbed to injuries.
They later fired at another PDP worker, Altaf Ahmad Dar, in Bus Stand Qasbayar. He has been shot in the legs and has was removed to hospital for treatment.
Early this week, militants had asked these two PDP workers to desist from their political activities and tender an apology in a local Masjid on Friday. However, they didn’t follow the militant dictates and were shot at tonight.
Sources said that militants have asked several political workers in Pulwama district to desist from political activities and announce publicly about their dissociation from mainstream political parties.
Sources said that militants last night also barged into the houses of two police men in Shopian district of South Kashmir and asked them to resign from their jobs.
The targeting of the political workers and the police men comes at a time when by-polls are being held in South Kashmir’s Anantnag constituency on May 25. The polls were scheduled for April 12 but were postponed after widespread violence in Srinagar where 8 persons were killed and over 200 injured on April 9 during by-poll.
