2 minor girls raped by shopkeeper

UDHAMPUR, Apr 21: In a shocking incident, two minor sisters were allegedly raped by a shopkeeper in a Panchari village, here last evening.
The incident sent a shock wave in the area and the locals held a strong protest seeking immediate arrest of accused and stern action in this regard. Later the Police succeeded to arrest the accused, who has been identified as Kewal, resident of Pancheri.
The main accused was running a shop in the area and in the preliminary investigation, involvement of his accomplice has also surfaced in the heinous crime, said DIG Udhampur-Reasi Range Varinder Sharma.
The victims, aged 8 and 10 years, had gone to Pancheri Panchayat Ghar along with their grandfather for preparation of Aadhar Card. On their return back to home, the grandfather stopped at a medical shop in Panchari for purchasing some medicine while both the girls left for home. However, they were intercepted by the accused in an isolated area and raped.
Later, the matter was brought into the notice of Police and a case FIR number 13/17 under Section 376 RPC was registered at Police Station Panchari while both the victims were sent to District Hospital Udhampur for medical examination.
As the accused was not nabbed by the morning, locals held a strong protest demonstration seeking immediate arrest of the culprit and stern against him. Later, the main accused was arrested from Udhampur while his accomplice was still at large.
